sorry about the very bad quality of the photo, im going to get my bum moving and get a better quality one together some day...!
i like this portrait cos no one else seems to.
i started off drawing myself very traditionally, then i got frustrated with it and poured water all down it.
when i came back to it the next day i thought i might have had something! so i took it from there.
there was quite alot of research behind this work, despite the accidental creating of it!
i was looking at subjectivity and the self, george herbert mead's theory of I & Me, and how societal values reflect upon ourselves.
i tried to make myself look awkward and tried to emphasise parts of me like my hair style, eye make up, clothing and accessories, etc that werent part of 'me' as i knew me, but 'me' as society judged me.
i was influenced by Francis Bacon in this work.
i love how he used photography as a guide to painting his subjects so they look moving yet still, and have a certain undescribale quality about them.

This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
